Police ID Toddler Killed In Maryland Shooting That Injured Mother

A community is reeling after a 2-year-old child was shot and killed outside a Prince George's County apartment complex.

Jeremy Poou-Caceres, of the Chillum area, has been identified by the police as the toddler who was shot, along with his mother, late on Thursday afternoon in Langley Park.

The child died at a local hospital, while his mother is expected to survive. 

According to police, shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, a detective who was working in the area of the 1400 block of Kanawha Street when gunshots rang out in the area, prompting further investigation.

The detective found both Poou-Caceres and his mother outside of an apartment complex, and he performed life-saving measures on the toddler until an ambulance arrived.

Poou-Caceres was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators are now looking to identify a possible suspect or motive for the fatal shooting.
